Your DJ
Reception entertainment, whether a live band or a DJ, can take your reception from a hum drum dinner into an evening everyone will remember! Some DJs will get out into the crowd and do a lot of the entertaining for you! Through songs, a group dance, or a break-dancing contest, the DJ you hire can have a big impact on your reception’s success.
The Shoe Game
The “Sh0 Game” is a great ice breaker, and gets a lot of laughs! Set two chairs back to back in the middle of the dance floor and ask the bride and groom to take a seat. Have the maid-of-honor remove both the groom’s shoes and the best man remove the bride’s; then give them each a shoe of theirs and one of their spouse.
Then the DJ announces, “This game is to show how much the new Mr./Mrs. John and Jane Doe really know about each other… I will ask you a question and you raise the shoe that you think best fits the answer to the question… his shoe for him and her she for her.”
Sometimes the bride will put up her shoe, and the groom will put up his, and the guests will roar. This can also be done with the parents of the bride or groom or other guests. The trick is, do not let the couple know the questions ahead of time.
Here are some example questions:
Who takes the longer shower? Who is the biggest flirt? Who is the more serious person? Who made the first move? Who is the better cook? Who has the wackiest family? Who is always right? Who is the better kisser? Who is most likely to get lost? And finally… Who do you love the most in the whole wide world?
Wedding I Spy
This is a wonderful way to get extra photos from your wedding. Ask your guests to use their digital cameras or smartphones to capture the moments even the best photographers sometimes miss.
Yard Games
For outdoor weddings, consider a beanbag toss, ring toss, giant Jenga, ladder golf, horseshoes, or croquet to help entertain your friends and family.
