The recent trend of weddings that involve an innovative space for the men to gather has me thinking—Is it always about the bride? Sure, the bride certainly comes first, but that doesn’t mean that the groom shouldn’t have his chance to shine.
Enter the Man Cave!
To accommodate the growing number of men who are starting to feel a little left out (or in the way), the Man Cave offers a place to feel at ease in a sometimes-uncomfortable situation. Wedding planners have started to include elaborate casino or poker corners at wedding receptions, catering towards the men who would otherwise be posted up by the bar desperately trying to avoid standard wedding small talk. After all, they deserve some fun too.
The Man Cave is a man’s dream in wedding additions—consisting of countless testosterone-favored activities. Blackjack tables, brandy bars, Playstations, stogies and more are incorporated in order to keep the men thoroughly entertained.
Before you start worrying that the Man Cave will just draw everyone away from the actual wedding festivities, think twice about the nature of man. The addition gives the groom and his buddies a part of the wedding that is “theirs” making them feel more connection to the wedding in general. If allowed the opportunity to have their own fun for a while, they’re likely to be more enthusiastic, understanding and enjoyable when it comes to the general activities (and less likely to resent their required participation). Plus, the Man Cave gives the groom his own portion of the night to plan without the bride. It allows the wedding planners to specifically target men and come up with unique ideas to meet their interests. But if you’re still worried, you can always control the Man Cave activities to last only a portion of the night.
Clearly men are finally asserting their independence within the wedding planning process, leaping to new heights on the participant ladder than we ever thought possible. It’s as if they’re proving “No, It ISN’T always about the bride.”
Then again, maybe the Man Cave concept is just a clever plot to get the men out of the bride’s spotlight for a while. 🙂
