Most hotels are willing to negotiate a discounted rate for a block of rooms. If you have many out-of-town relatives, this may be a big plus. Some hotel packages also throw in a honeymoon suite gratis- a nice touch. One caveat: make sure to double-check the hotel’s “special” rate to see if you’re really getting a deal. A very typical bridal complaint is that they discover the “special group rate” was no different than the regular room fees available online.
Even if you don’t need any banquet or catering services most hotels will happily negotiate a group room rate for your hotel guests. Business hotels are usually dying for business on weekends.
Also, remember December and January are really good times to get deeply discounted room rates at many hotels—the holidays are busy for banquets and parties, but not as much for room occupancy.
Just make sure your guests are really coming BEFORE you guarantee a room count—most hotels charge steep penalties if you use fewer room nights than you guarantee.
