Let the groom be heard!
Even if you’ve had half your wedding plans dreamt up since you were seven, it is important to understand the groom’s wants and needs on his big day too! Openly listening and supporting his opinions are two great ways to keep him involved throughout the entire planning process.
Give him some responsibility.
Letting him choose a DJ or caterer for the reception, or helping you pick out a wedding day venue, is an easy way to take some of that planning weight off your shoulders. Chances are that there are many parts of the wedding that the groom strongly values. Maybe he is really into gourmet desserts and would be a great help in finding the perfect baker to order your cake from. Or maybe he knows all of the best photographers in town. In the end, it is important for you to make the final decisions as a couple, but letting your groom do some of the research can be tremendously helpful.
Let him choose what he wants to help with.
If he is more interested in what he is helping with, he will be more likely to stay focused and useful. Instead of trying to get him to help you pick out the fine points, like accent colors or fonts on invitations, bring up details that you know he will be interested in or good at.
Designate a wedding planning day together.
Set aside a day each week where you have a few hours to plan together and that you both remain up to date on the plans for the big day. You can check back in with each other to ensure that you are on schedule and on budget, and that you both end up having a fantastic time on the big day.
