For many, it’s the day they have been waiting for their whole life. The dress is beautiful and the flowers are perfect, now it’s time for the money-shot…Until your Aunt Janice steps in the aisle and takes a picture instead.
It may seem rude to tell your guests to put away their phones during the ceremony, but chances are you paid for a photographer to take the perfect pictures. There are no do-over’s during the ceremony and often photos (like walking down the aisle with your father) are ruined by guests stepping in front of the professional photographer or flashes that white out the picture.
This is one of the reasons for what is called an “unplugged” wedding.
Reasons to go unplugged
- Guests are present for the event and get the entire experience (there are no distractions.)
- No competition for the quality pics you are already paying top dollar for (this includes making special moments public before your photos come back.)
- No awkward moments made public (like flower girls or ring bearers throwing a fit.)
- Privacy for attendees and their children/families/friends (maybe Karry doesn’t want a forever pic of her and her plus one or Sue doesn’t want a pic of her drinking wine straight from the bottle.)
How to go unplugged diplomatically (we recommend using them all)
- Put it on your invitations. (You’ll find all sorts of sweet ways of expressing it on the internet, especially Pinterest…GGW is on Pinterest…hint, hint.)
- Put it on a sign that everyone will see when they enter. (Again, Pinterest has lots of great ideas.)
- Put it on the program where everyone will see it again.
- You can always offer the option of plugging back in at the reception!
